 Target Audience

 Learning what the target audience for slasher horror helps me know who will watch these films and why. So to make my film I need to do research on what the audience looks for and who will watch it.

formally the average slasher horror viewer is someone that enjoys horror films and can watch gory. Slasher horror is mainly killing and gory, so most viewers are people that can handle that.

Age group

primary audiences are teenagers and young adults, typically 15-30 years old. Slasher horror films have high stake situations, suspense, and relatable young character making them appealing to this age group

Movies like SCREAM and final destination franchise have young characters. 

Gen z and Gen Alpha

these are people of the age 14-29. This is the audience usually watching slasher horror because its what they are interested in. The goriness, killing mystery, and they usually fascinate this over other genres.

Market Advertisement

The way slasher horror is advertise posters and trailers with the killers weapon or mask while also teasing the final girl. This makes the audience see what they might be getting into by what the film will be about. In trailers they show snippets of the threat and not the violence. Using shadows, slow steps, this makes audience imagine the worst. This makes viewers who want suspense, not gore. Terrifier 3  trailer shows goriness to indicate to it's target audience for the movie which is people that can handle a a lot of gore and killing with  weapons shown like a chainsaw.

Companies

Companies likes Blum house work with low budgeted, high concept horror with not as much gore to appeal to their younger audience that like smart horror and not gore. Another company is A24 that elevates artsy strong psychology slasher horror to appeal to fans that want depth and symbolism horrors. Movies from those companies that appeal to their audiences likes are The Purge and X. Companies make movies that they know their audience from the past have enjoyed and keep the concepts of other movies the same.

Overall

This helps me understand how to appeal to a certain target audience I will be filming for and other elements like level of violence and theme.
